*Ascent to Truth* _A Play by the Mother_ *Performance at Matrimandir Fountain on August 22nd, 23rd & 24th at 7.00 pm* We begin with Sri Aurobindo's poem One Day and conclude with lines from Savitri. This play, written by the Mother, is not a conventional one. There are no plots to explore, no mysteries to solve, no dramas to unravel, no scenes meant to wake up emotions. In Her simple and direct language, it's more like a mirror, putting us in front of our fears, insecurities and attachments. Archetypes of us, humans, the 12 characters are in search of a high ideal, each one at a different level of inner commitment to that ideal, each one showing its own limits, mostly its attachment to the past and what it represents. The mind, always ready to justify one's actions, is ready with explanations and excuses that clearly reflect one's inner conflicting choices. This inner journey is symbolised by an ascent towards the summit of a high and steep mountain, challenging the seekers at each turn. One by one, they drop out, leaving at the end only two people, the true aspirants, with courage enough to brave every difficulty, to face the unknown, having faith as their only guide and strength. And then they are led to a new world. Truth, Beauty and Light envelop them, and their achievement makes the whole life shift.
