It is hereby notified that drugs are strictly prohibited in Auroville in all forms and under all circumstances. This includes, without limitation, the possession, consumption, distribution, trafficking, or smuggling of drugs, whether in public or private spaces. Drugs are illegal under Indian law, and any involvement with drugs is unlawful both within and outside Auroville. Further, it is reiterated that the consumption of alcohol is not permitted anywhere in Auroville, including during any gatherings. Alcohol consumption is prohibited within Auroville in accordance with Auroville’s values and the Auroville Residents’ Criteria, which emphasise restraint with respect to alcohol. Further please note in its 70th meeting the Governing Board has approved a Zero Tolerance Policy for Alcohol within Auroville. Additionally, smoking in public places is prohibited. Smoking in public spaces or during public events constitutes an offence under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, which applies across India and is strictly enforced within Auroville. All Residents, Newcomers, Volunteers, and Guests are hereby directed to strictly adhere to the above provisions and to extend their full cooperation in ensuring their effective implementation within Auroville.
