*New Mandarin Chinese Course with Shiju* Exploring Chinese Classics through Visible Thinking for Beginner Instructor: Shiju Hsieh (Ph.D. Candidate, National Taiwan Normal University) Duration: 18 November 2025 – 10 February 2026 (Twice a week, 1.5 hours per session total 36 hours over 3 months) Days and time: Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 11:30 am This course introduces Mandarin Chinese through the wisdom of Confucian classics, combining language learning, cultural understanding, and visible thinking strategies. Learners will explore The Analects of Confucius using the textbook The Foreign Disciples Learn the Analects (《洋弟子學論語》), starting with the theme of filial piety — “When parents are alive, one should not travel far; if one must travel, one should have a definite purpose.” Through calligraphy writing, reading, and visual thinking routines such as See–Think–Wonder and Step Inside, students will: Learn foundational Chinese vocabulary and pronunciation; Understand Chinese characters through cultural symbols (214 radicals); Engage in dialogues that connect Confucian values with modern life; Express personal thoughts and emotions in Mandarin.
